Virtual Machine
An Azure Virtual Machine is a virtual computer with specific parameters (software and hardware) that runs on the Azure platform. Azure offers a large selection of virtual machines which parameters can be tailored to your individual needs.

How will Virtual Machines revolutionize work in your company?

Running multiple virtual environments from a single infrastructure means you can drastically reduce the consumption of physical infrastructure. This increases your profits - reducing the need to maintain almost the same number of servers and increasing savings on maintenance and electricity costs.
Starting a virtual machine is relatively easy and fast, and much simpler than provisioning a whole new environment for developers. Virtualization makes the process of running development and testing scenarios faster.
Virtual machines are easy to move from one hypervisor function to the next on another machine - this means they are an excellent backup solution in the event of an unexpected host shutdown.
Virtual machines allow you to scale your applications more easily by adding more physical or virtual servers to spread the load across multiple virtual machines. Therefore, you can increase application availability and performance.
Virtual machines run on multiple operating systems, so by using a guest operating system on a virtual machine, you can run applications that have questionable security and protect the host operating system. VMs also provide better evidence protection and are often used to securely investigate and isolate computer viruses.
You can reduce the cost of running virtual machines by up to 72 percent compared to pay-as-you-go, with the option to reserve virtual machines on the Azure platform in a 1-year or 3-year model. It is important to consider whether the virtual machine will be used continuously or only for a part of the day. In the first case, reserving a virtual machine will be the preferred solution.

Azure Backup
Azure Backup is a cost-effective and secure backup solution. With a single click, you can create, manage and size backups of your storage, including these services: Azure Virtual Machines, SQL/SAP databases and Azure platform files.

What does Azure Backup mean for your business?

Development

It is a chance for stable business development and greater security of company resources.

Cost savings

Lowering logistics costs connected with creating backup copies outside your office.

Security

It's a quick and easy solution that will allow your business to recover quickly in the event of a failure.

Continuity of work

It provides the highest data security status by implementing the golden rule of 3-2-1 backup (more on this in the FAQ).

How works Microsoft Azure Backup?

It protects your data at all times - 24/7, and everywhere - on servers, on hosts, in the cloud, in all your applications and Azure Virtual Machines. Microsoft Azure Backup provides unlimited data transfer, with resources stored for up to 99 years. Three copies of the data are stored in one Data Center, with an additional one in a remote location. Data is encrypted before leaving the Client's Data Center and stored in this form on the Azure platform. It is possible to integrate with System Center Data Protection Manager in order to obtain advanced protection.
Microsoft Azure Backup can be used both in the local cloud (files, folders, local virtual machines) and in the hybrid cloud, in Azure virtual machines, Azure Storage, Azure Files, SQL Server VM, SAP HABA database, Azure Database for PostgreSQL or Blobs. The solution allows backups of growing data, as well as backups of IaaS virtual machines.
Short recovery time after a failure allows your business to quickly get back to running smoothly. You have the option of detailed recovery - to mailbox or SQL database recovery. Setup and scalability are extremely easy, and backups are optimized and can be easily restored when needed. It is possible to obtain application-consistent backups, which means that the recovery point has all the data required to restore a backup. Restoring data consistent at the application level reduces the time of the entire process, allowing you to quickly return to work.
Microsoft Azure Backup creates opportunities for automated storage management. Hybrid environments often require storage located partly locally and partly in the cloud. The Azure Backup service automatically allocates capacity and manages your backup storage, and you only pay for actual storage usage.Azure Backup offers three types of replication to provide the best access to storage. Locally redundant storage (LRS) is an economical option to protect data from local hardware failures. Geographically Redundant Storage (GRS) is the default setting and the recommended replication option. For more on this topic, see the FAQ.

Azure Storage
Azure Storage is a cloud service that provides high availability storage space that is secure, sustainable, scalable, and redundant. Regardless of the content stored (images, audio, video, logs, configuration files, etc.) it allows easy access to the stored data.

Why is Azure Storage the perfect solution for your business?

Reliability

It enables replication and storage of multiple copies of data.

Security

All Azure Storage services are encrypted so your data is secure.

Scalability

Quick and easy expansion of your storage space

User-friendly management

The Azure platform handles hardware maintenance, upgrades, and critical issues for you.

Accessibility

Data in the Azure Storage service is accessible from anywhere in the world via HTTP or HTTPS, among others.

Flexible pricing

The cost is based on the amount of data stored. You pay according to the amount of space you use.

Check out what storage services are available in Azure Storage!

Azure Blob Storage is optimized for storing massive amounts of unstructured data.

The Blob Storage service is ideal for:
  • handling images and documents directly in the browser,
  • storing files for distributed access,
  • streaming audio and video,
  • saving data for backup, restoration, recovery after failure, and archiving,
  • storing data for analysis in a local or hosted service on the Azure platform.
Azure Files offers cloud file storage and management that can be accessed from anywhere via the standard Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. This means, among other things, that several virtual machines can share the same files with both read and write access. One of the differences between the Azure Files service and standard shared files is the ability to access files from anywhere in the world using a URL after generating a Token.

Azure Files service is an ideal solution for:
  • when multiple local applications share files,
  • when stored configuration files require access from several virtual machines,
  • resource logs, reports, utilities.
The Azure Disk is a virtual hard drive (VHD) that can be used for Azure Virtual Machines and Azure VMware Solution collaboration. The drives are available in the following versions: SSD in Ultra tier, SSD in Premium tier, and SSD and HDD in Standard tier.
The Azure Queue service is used for storing large amounts of messages. Queue messages can be up to 64 KB in size, and a single queue can contain millions of pieces of information. Queues are typically used to store lists of messages to be processed asynchronously.
It enables structured NoSQL data to be stored in the cloud. It is dedicated to storing a flexible set of information such as user data for web applications, address books, device information or any other type of metadata required for a specific service.

Frequently Asked Questions about Azure

The Azure platform supports every operating system, from Windows to Linux, a wide range of programming languages, from C# to Java, and many tools - from SQL Server to Oracle software.
3-2-1 means you should have 3 copies of your data (production data and 2 backups) on 2 different media with 1 off-site copy for disaster recovery purposes.
Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) replicates data three times (creates three copies of data) in a data center storage scale-out unit. It is a cost-effective option for protecting data from local hardware failures.
Geographically Redundant Storage (GRS) is the default setting and the recommended replication option. It replicates data to an auxiliary region (hundreds of kilometers from the source data's primary location). GRS provides a higher level of resource persistence – it replicates data across availability zones, which guarantees data residency and resiliency in the same region.
